Description
Roll up your sleeves and get ready to cook! In this hands-on Mandarin immersion class, students explore Chinese language and culture through the sights, smells, tastes, and excitement of making food from scratch.
Students will get to know each ingredient, taste and compare sauces and seasonings, wash and cut vegetables, mix fillings, knead and roll dough, wrap dumplings and spring rolls, stir, cook, and—of course—taste what they make! Along the way, they naturally learn the Mandarin words and expressions connected to the ingredients, flavors, cooking techniques, and actions they are experiencing.
Each class features a new culinary adventure, from dumplings, mooncakes, scallion pancakes, spring rolls, egg drop soup, and boba milk tea to other favorite Chinese dishes. Students will also discover the stories, traditions, and cultural meaning behind the foods they prepare.
By learning Mandarin through real, meaningful experiences, students are encouraged to listen, speak, taste, create, and communicate in Chinese. Cooking makes the language come alive and gives students a fun reason to use Mandarin beyond the classroom.
Every class is a delicious cultural adventure designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning Mandarin!
