Learn useful Mandarin while experiencing Chinese culture beyond the guidebooks!

Created especially for parents, this 6-class Sunday series combines practical Mandarin with food, tea, traditions, characters, and everyday Chinese culture. Rather than sitting through a traditional language class, you’ll taste, make, play, explore, and converse while naturally picking up Mandarin words and expressions you can use in daily life—and even practice with your child at home.

Across six gatherings, we’ll explore experiences such as:

1.Mid-Autumn Festival & Snow-Skin Mooncakes — Make snow-skin mooncakes冰皮月饼, learn festival greetings and food vocabulary, and discover why the moon, family, and reunion are so deeply connected in Chinese culture.

2.The Art of Chinese Tea — Taste different teas, learn how Chinese tea is prepared and served, practice useful Mandarin around hospitality, and explore the meaning of inviting someone to 喝茶.

3.舌尖上的中国: The Taste of China — Discover the “Chinese flavor formula” through sauces, aromatics, seasonings, and regional tastes. Make a simple Chinese style salad 凉拌菜 while learning how to describe ingredients and flavors in Mandarin.

4.Everyday Chinese Culture — Explore ideas such as 面子 (face), family, harmony, and hospitality. Why are Chinese family titles so complicated? Why does food play such an important role in relationships? How can Confucian traditions still be seen in everyday Chinese life?

5.Play Mahjong& Social Life — Experience mahjong, while learning the characters, numbers, expressions, and social traditions surrounding these favorite pastimes.

6.Chinese Arts & Traditions — Explore calligraphy, lanterns, fans, Chinese clothing, characters, and traditional aesthetics through hands-on activities and conversation.

Throughout the series, you’ll also build a foundation in useful everyday Mandarin and Chinese character recognition, helping you better understand what your child is learning at Chia and giving you simple ways to bring Mandarin into family life.

No previous Mandarin experience is needed. Come curious, relax with a cup of tea, and experience Chinese language and culture as our guest.

Six Sundays. Six cultural experiences. A little more Mandarin—and a much deeper connection to your child’s learning and Chinese culture.
