The Chia Chinese Immersion Summer Camp harnesses the power of immersion learning, helping students pick up the language more easily than they would in a typical 1-hour class during the school year. The camp offers a rich language experience through eight engaging themes, designed to build fluency and refresh children’s Chinese skills in a fun, hands-on way. Themes like Food and Health, Exploring Nature, Space Exploration, and Journey of the Arts introduce students to new vocabulary, while they engage in creative projects like cooking, making balloon rockets, designing future cities, and crafting musical instruments. Our camp combines play and effective learning to ensure children retain what they’ve learned, fostering a deeper connection with the language. This immersive approach provides an enjoyable and effective path to language mastery.

Class Details
Chia Immersion Summer Camp will utilize the power of immersion learning, combining fun play with effective learning projects, allowing children to refresh their language skills, ensuring they retain what they’ve learned, and building fluency. Each week, we will pick one theme to explore out of eight engaging themes:
- Exploring Nature (探索自然): Activities include observing plants outdoors and creating nature collages using leaves and flowers. Students will learn related Chinese vocabulary, such as trees (树木), flowers (花朵), and clouds (云朵).
- Animals’ World (动物世界): Projects involve classifying animals based on their characteristics and creating animal masks. Students will learn vocabulary related to animals, like tiger (老虎), elephant (大象), and monkey (猴子).
- Technology and Inventions (科技与创新): Students will build simple robots and design a future technology city with recycled materials. They will learn terms like robot (机器人) and computer (计算机).
- Space Exploration (宇宙探险): Activities include making balloon rockets and creating a solar system model. Students will explore vocabulary such as stars (星星), planets (行星), and astronaut (宇航员).
- Ocean Exploration (海洋探秘): Projects include making an aquarium model and conducting simple water quality tests. Vocabulary learned will include ocean (海洋), fish (鱼类), and coral (珊瑚).
- Architectural Wonders (建筑奇迹): Students will design bridge models and construct towers, learning words like house (房子), bridge (桥梁), and pyramid (金字塔).
- Food and Health (食物与健康): Activities will involve classifying foods and cooking simple healthy snacks, teaching terms like fruit (水果), vegetable (蔬菜), and health (健康).
- Journey of the Arts (艺术之旅): Students will create simple musical instruments and choreograph dances, exploring vocabulary related to art, music, and performance, such as instrument (乐器), song (唱歌), and role (角色).
Through these themes and projects, children will engage in meaningful learning experiences that enhance their Chinese language skills in a fun and immersive environment

*Writing will be in various forms, including learning 50 high frequent used Chinese words, calligraphy, playing games to recognize characters, building sentences, learning to type, etc.
**STEAM & Cooking Project time is dedicated to working on a topic based project as the earning evidence from the camp. It can also be cooking, an artistic project, a science experiment, or rehearsal for a performance.
